Behaviour and environment interact across the life course to influence a person’s health. This interaction is normal, healthy, and is crucial to our survival. However, it is possible that for some individuals, under certain circumstances, environments (cues, conditioned stimuli) can come to have a negative impact on a person’s health. This sometimes happens when an individual develops an addiction.
The goal of our research is to better understand the neurobiology that underlies a cue’s ability to drive addiction-related behaviours and determine how this neurobiology of motivation differs across people.
